It was at the start of October 2010, when the idea of Jungle Lane started to emerge. I work from home with our online and wholesale distribution business and had been saying for months that the cost of advertising for new businesses is astounding, and when looking to buy products on the internet, it is often only by luck that the right business is found. After discussing this with other entrepreneurs it seemed that this was a common problem. Not only for business related products but also for gifts and personal items and services.

Also massed with the fact that I have had a birthday card sitting on my desk for my brother's birthday that was in September (he lives in the UK), waiting to find time to buy a gift that would not cost too much to send, and the fact that Christmas is around the corner and the idea for shopping for friends and family overseas or out of town for Christmas gifts, was once again looking daunting. The time and cost to buy and send gifts from New Zealand to the UK, Australia, USA or even domestically was going to be horrible and limiting on the cost of the item. Not to mention making sure they arrive in time.

I am the kind of person who likes to spend as little time as possible to get the best deal possible at the best price. I like to purchase online as with 2 small kids it means shopping at night vs at the mall where there is bound to be an epic meltdown somewhere along the way. But often I spend hours just trying to find what it is I am looking for on the internet, so really it is not always productive for me as a business owner and parent.

This is when I thought, 'I wish there was a website that I could go to that would then direct me to all the businesses I am looking for... a one stop shop. And further more allow me to find a store, service or gift shop on the other side of the world, that I could simply purchase a gift and have it sent locally. A place where I could browse through different stores, services and products, like I was in my own personal mall that was open when it suited me.’ And that’s when the idea of Jungle Lane started to emerge.

We decided after much deliberation, that there would be a market out there. We knew that there were people out there experiencing the same frustrations on many different levels. It would place where all kinds of people could list their products, businesses and services at little expense. And for the everyday consumer it would make shopping locally and worldwide a breeze.

After all it can be a jungle out there...
